We were watching this bird yesterday evening as the sun was setting and couldn’t for the life of us figure out what he was we both figured he was of the Woodpecker family by the shape and size of his beak , he was high up in a tree across the street . Ken got photos of this little guy as he was giving us a show of him catching bugs in the air .
That blur on the left side of the photo between the branches is a dragon fly this little guy had his eye on lol !
Well we both looked and looked through our books and on line and compared his photos to other pictures and Ken found out that this little guy is a juvenile Red Headed Woodpecker . We have seen the adults before but never a young one till yesterday evening . Nice shots Ken !

I had no idea what it was but I don't see that woodpecker here at all...Michelle
Those are great photos Elaine, and how neat to see a juvenile.
It does look quite distinctive. I would have had no idea.
